Biography

Distinguished Professor Digvir S. Jayas is educated at G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology in Pantnagar, India; the University of Manitoba; and the University of Saskatchewan. He has completed terms as Vice-President (Research International) and Vice-President (Research) at the University of Manitoba, as well as Associate Vice-President (Research) for eight years. He was previously Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, and served as Head of the Department of Biosystems Engineering. Dr. Jayas has made significant contributions to research in food preservation, grain drying, and storage, earning over 1000 technical articles in scientific journals. He has received multiple awards for his contributions, including the 2017 Sukup Global Food Security Award and induction into the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame. In 2018, he was appointed Officer of the Order of Canada for his advancements in agricultural practices worldwide. Dr. Jayas actively collaborates with researchers from various countries to develop efficient grain storage and handling systems, impacting the agri-food industry globally.
