Biography

Dimitra Tsakalou is a Teaching Fellow in the Moray House School of Education and Sport at the University of Edinburgh. She graduated with a class honours degree in Philosophy, Pedagogy, and Psychology and is currently pursuing an MSc in Inclusive Special Education while working on her PhD in Education. Dimitra has roles in educational capacity as a secondary teacher specializing in Greek Classics. She has taught a variety of Educational Studies courses at the University of Edinburgh and previously worked as an associate lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University. Her research focuses on inclusive education, examining social constructions within educational communities and the attitudes of school professionals and parents towards inclusion. She has developed frameworks that address challenges faced by special education needs (SEN) students and investigates institutional identities and the politics of education. Dimitra employs qualitative research techniques with a particular interest in case studies to inform her teaching and research practice. Her ongoing research includes exploring the layered narratives of school stakeholders and their influence on inclusive practices.
