Biography

Don Boyes is a Professor in the Teaching Stream and Associate Dean of Teaching & Learning at the Department of Geography and Planning, Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto. He has a strong focus on GIScience education and a deep interest in digital pedagogy. With extensive experience in teaching both in-person and online courses, Don has created and continues to offer a series of four massive open online courses (MOOCs) on Coursera, which have been taken by thousands of students worldwide. He is recognized for his teaching excellence and has received several awards, including the Canadian Association of Geographers Award for Excellence in Teaching Geography and the University of Toronto President's Teaching Award. His M.Sc. and Ph.D. research concentrated on the use of spatial analysis and satellite imagery to understand the geomorphological evolution of the Mackenzie River Delta in the Northwest Territories. Following his doctoral studies, he worked as a freelance GIS consultant, mainly with Indigenous resource management organizations.
