Dr. Doris Kolesch

Biography

Doris Kolesch is a full professor of Theatre Studies at the Free University of Berlin, where she has been a faculty member since 2002. She studied General and Comparative Literature at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and several prestigious institutions in Paris. She obtained her doctoral degree with summa cum laude in 1994 and has held various academic positions, including scientific assistant and postdoctoral researcher. Kolesch specializes in the theory and aesthetics of theatre, literature, and various arts, focusing on performativity, gender studies, and the cultural history of emotions. She has coordinated several interdisciplinary research projects and is the principal investigator in multiple excellence initiatives supported by the German Research Foundation. Her extensive publication record includes works on voice as a phenomenon in contemporary performance and dramaturgy. Across her career, she has participated in numerous academic committees and advisory boards, influencing the fields of theatre research and teaching in Germany. As a member of the Academic Senate at the Free University of Berlin, she has contributed significantly to the institution's academic governance.
