Biography

R. Douglas Wright is a distinguished trombonist and educator, currently serving as a lecturer in trombone at Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music. He holds a master's degree from Boston University and has an extensive background as a performer, including serving as the principal trombone of the Minnesota Orchestra since 1995. Wright has been featured as a soloist, notably performing Kalevi Aho's Symphony No. 9 and world premieres of compositions such as Kurt Schwertsik's Trombone Concerto. Before his time with the Minnesota Orchestra, he was a member of the Empire Brass Quintet and held the positions of principal trombone with the Cleveland Orchestra and the Rhode Island Philharmonic. An active chamber musician, Wright performs in various concert series and festivals. He is also a committed educator, serving as a Selmer clinician and conducting masterclasses in the United States and abroad. His performances can be heard in recordings with the Minnesota Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and he has even made an appearance in an MTV music video with the rock group Aerosmith.
