Biography

Edward is a full-time lecturer at the University of Glasgow, engaged in community development with a background as a professional youth work practitioner for ten years. His extensive experience in various community environments includes work in youth clubs, detached outreach, schools, hospitals, and prisons. He believes that youth work should not be confined to a particular geographical area or context. His practice is based on the empowerment of youth engagement, supported by his extensive experience working with young people of various ages. Edward is a registered member of the Community Learning and Development Standards Council for Scotland and is involved with the Scottish Youth Work Steering Group. He graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a first-class BA (Hons) in Community Education, focusing his undergraduate research dissertation on the creative arts through a critical pedagogical lens. His Master's degree was obtained from the Glasgow School of Art, where he studied the sound environment of prisons and its impact on inmates. Edward completed his PhD at the University of the West of Scotland in 2019, which explored young people's perspectives on learning in Creative Arts Youth Work. His current research focuses on the relationships between formal and informal youth work education, particularly in the context of how young people learn in educational settings through creative arts.
