Dr. Eiji Miura

Biography

Eiji Miura is a Clinical Assistant Professor specializing in Musical Theatre and Voice at the University of Michigan. He is recognized for his strong voice and nuanced acting skills, and is a versatile artist with an expansive repertoire that includes opera, musical theatre, concert work, background vocals, and video game soundtracks. Miura's prior experience includes faculty positions at the Boston Conservatory and Berklee College of Music, where he taught studio voice and lyric diction. He has served as the managing director of the Summer Opera Intensive in Spain and has taught high school students through the Vocal/Choral Intensive. As a passionate advocate for justice in educational environments, Miura works to create spaces where all voices are respected, especially those of historically marginalized communities. He has been involved in initiatives related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, including serving on Harvard University's Committee on Ethnicity, Migration, and Rights. Miura's research interests extend into vocal pedagogy, where he explores intersections of vocal acoustics, psychoacoustics, and linguistics, particularly regarding how orofacial myofunctional disorders impact adult singers. He holds degrees in East Asian Studies and Vocal Performance from Clark University, along with certifications in Japanese Language and Culture Studies from Kansai Gaidai University and a Master’s in Vocal Performance Pedagogy from the Boston Conservatory.
