Dr. Eliana Perrin

Biography

Eliana Perrin is a nationally recognized leader in patient-oriented primary care, with specific expertise in childhood obesity and health disparities research. As a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor at Johns Hopkins University, she has developed and disseminated tools to assist pediatricians in preventing and treating obesity among children. Dr. Perrin's research emphasizes the importance of well-child checks to support parents in fostering healthy growth in children, addressing a significant public health concern as childhood obesity affects one in three children in the United States. Her work spans a range of methods, both qualitative and quantitative, aiming to understand the multifaceted issues surrounding childhood obesity and its health correlates, particularly in disadvantaged communities. She founded and directed Duke University's Center for Childhood Obesity Research and initiated the “Greenlight” program aimed at preventing obesity in young children. Since joining Johns Hopkins in 2021, Dr. Perrin has continued her focus on how social determinants influence health outcomes for children and families, particularly during the critical early years of development.
