Biography

Elisa V. Borah is a Research Professor and the Associate Dean for Research at the University of Texas at Austin's Steve Hicks School of Social Work. She serves as the Director of the Institute for Military and Veteran Family Wellness, a joint initiative with the Dell Medical School. Dr. Borah's research focuses on the identification, implementation, and evaluation of programs that support military members, veterans, their spouses, and families. Her current work investigates the impact of peer social support on military spouses, self-care practices, and their transition challenges in military life. She has played a significant role in addressing veteran suicide prevention practices through her research. In 2015, she developed the Veteran Spouse Network (VSN), funded by an Engagement Award from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), to engage veteran spouses in defining their programmatic needs for support. Additionally, Dr. Borah has chaired the annual Military Social Work conference at the University of Texas at Austin and previously directed the Ft. Hood site for the STRONG STAR PTSD Research Consortium under the Department of Defense. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.S.W. from the George Warren Brown School of Social Work.
