Biography

Elise Lavallée began her viola studies at Le Conservatoire de Musique de Québec and earned a full scholarship to the Manhattan School of Music, where she completed her Master of Music under the tutelage of Emmanuel Vardi and Cynthia Phelps. Following this, she earned an Artist Diploma from McGill University. A faculty instructor at the Desautels Faculty of Music, Lavallée teaches Viola and Chamber Music, and coaches orchestras and string sections. She joined the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) in 1997 as Assistant Principal Viola and is currently acting Principal Viola. In addition to her work with WSO, Lavallée has performed with numerous orchestras across Canada and the United States and regularly features in chamber music performances and solo recitals with organizations such as the Winnipeg Chamber Music Society and Virtuosi. Apart from performance, she has maintained an active viola teaching studio and is a sought-after speaker on topics like music careers and wellness. Lavallée has contributed her insights as a columnist for Radio-Canada Manitoba and hosted WSO's podcast series. Her commitment to the francophone community is evident through her founding of Les Grands Concerts de la Cathédrale St-Boniface and involvement with the Franco-Manitoban Cultural Centre.
