Biography

Ellen Vanderhoven is a Lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Glasgow and a member of the Education Leadership and Policy group. Her research and teaching interests focus on education policy with an emphasis on international comparative perspectives. She has a particular interest in youth transitions, managing policy structures at both global and national scales, with a focus on vocational education and training, particularly dual models of apprenticeship. Ellen is dedicated to ensuring that the views, priorities, and interests of young people are reflected and upheld in education policies. Her work is informed by the sociology of youth studies and pays particular attention to social inequalities, including those related to gender and social class. Currently, she collaborates with Clara Fontdevila on a British Academy Fellowship exploring the role of the Catholic education sector in France and Spain as part of the REDUPOL project. Previously, she has worked on various comparative international research projects, including Dual Apprenticeship, and co-convenes the Glasgow Comparative International Education Research (GLACIER) Network. Before completing her PhD in Education at the University of Glasgow, Ellen worked as a modern languages teacher in France, Spain, and England. Her commitment to teaching and young people, along with her interest in internationalism, drives her academic research in higher education.
