Biography

Ellinor Isgren is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Gothenburg's School of Global Studies, where she primarily teaches and supervises students in human ecology and global studies. As a researcher affiliated with the Lund University Centre for Sustainability Studies (LUCSUS), she leads a research project focused on mobilizing farmer organizations for sustainable agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa, which is funded by Formas. Isgren has a background in Environmental Science and Agricultural Science with a PhD in Sustainability Science. Her main research interests include the intersection of agriculture, development, and sustainability, particularly in smallholder contexts and the social-political mobilization processes in rural areas. Her current projects explore opportunities for agri-food system transitions in the global North and focus on integrating sustainability within the curriculum of the Bachelor’s program in Sustainable Development. She emphasizes the importance of understanding the social drivers of environmental issues within her teaching, especially regarding rural development, food security, and social movements. Isgren has contributed to numerous publications on critical sustainability science, farmer group mobilization, agricultural policy, and ecological intensification.
