Biography

Eric Hoernemann is an instructor in the Master of Science in Learning Organizational Change (MSLOC) program at Northwestern University. He is an executive coach and leadership development expert with extensive experience in corporate talent development. Eric joined the MSLOC faculty in 2018, where he coaches and advises students on their career paths. Previously, he served as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard for 21 years, achieving the rank of Commander. His naval assignments included command of the USCGC Katmai Bay and service as Executive Officer on the USCGC Mackinaw. In shore assignments, Eric managed the Coast Guard's portfolio of leadership development courses and was second-in-command at the largest training center in the service. After retiring in 2017, Eric transitioned to the corporate sector and took on a role at W.W. Grainger, focusing on employee engagement and talent management. In 2022, he joined Elevance Health as Talent Program Director, where he oversees talent programs, designs solutions for team effectiveness, and promotes leadership succession planning across the organization, which has a workforce of 24,000 associates. He resides in Gurnee, Illinois with his wife Mary and daughter Katherine. In his free time, Eric enjoys tabletop gaming, golf, reading, and bowling, although his daughter has outpaced him in that sport.
