Biography

Eric Nowlin is an Assistant Professor of Viola at Michigan State University College of Music. He is a Principal Violist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and has performed extensively across the United States and abroad. Notably, his performance of Berlioz’ Harold in Italy, conducted by Leonard Slatkin, was described by Classical Source as 'outstanding.' Nowlin has received numerous accolades including prizes from the Walter W. Naumburg Competition, the Irving Klein International String Competition, and the Hellam Young Artists Competition. He has performed as a soloist with various orchestras and recited in major cities including New York, Chicago, and San Francisco. In addition to his performance career, he was a member of the Juno Award-winning New Orford String Quartet and currently plays in the Woodward String Quartet. His educational background includes Bachelor's and Master's degrees from The Juilliard School, where he studied as a scholarship student under Samuel Rhodes. During the summer months, he is involved in teaching and performing at various music festivals worldwide. Nowlin also contributes to music education through his YouTube channel, where he shares tutorials and insights for aspiring violists.
