Biography

Eric Sutherland has a diverse background that includes working as an illustrator in the auto industry and on assembly lines in fabrication shops. His early training provided him with a technical, hands-on perspective that he has maintained throughout his career. He has worked for 12 years in international architectural offices on projects across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, specializing in architectural buildings and environments for learning. Sutherland teaches at the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of Buffalo, where he has been involved in hands-on architecture curricula and campus projects. Notably, he designed the Kent Kleinman project, which won the Progressive Architecture Award in 2000. Recently, Sutherland was the lead designer for the Run Shaw Creative Media Center at the City University of Hong Kong, which received the Hong Kong Institute of Architects Merit Award in 2012. He also oversaw the architectural development of the Zhang Zhidong Modern Industry Museum in Wuhan, China.
