Biography

Erica Heinzman is a lecturer and supervisor in the Secondary Mathematics credential program at the University of California, San Diego. She teaches within the Master of Education program and supervises mathematics credential candidates during their field placements. Her research advocacy interests are centered on high school mathematics pathways, with a particular focus on non-traditional mathematics courses such as Data Science and Discrete Mathematics. Prior to joining the faculty at UC San Diego, she was a high school mathematics teacher with over a decade of experience in leadership roles at Kearny High School, where she worked to develop innovative educational practices. Erica holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of California, San Diego and California State University, San Marcos, as well as a Master of Education from UC San Diego. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Bachelor's degree from the University of San Diego. Furthermore, she has received the California Professional Clear Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mathematics with supplementary credentials in English and Anthropology. She has also been recognized as Teacher of the Year in 2005 and 2013 by the California League of High Schools and was nominated for Educator of the Year in 2008-09.
