Felipe Martínez-Pinzón graduated from Universidad de los Andes with a B.A. in Literature and a J.D. in Law, and earned his Ph.D. in Latin American Literature from New York University in 2012. He began his academic career at CUNY’s College of Staten Island and joined Brown University's Department of Hispanic Studies in 2015. His research interests focus on Colombian literature and culture, exploring themes such as literary material cultures of Romanticism, ecocriticism, and representations of the tropics. He has published two monographs analyzing elite representations of tropical climates in 19th-century Colombia and the political uses of print cultures in Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela during the Independence period. Additionally, he co-edited several volumes on foundational relations between war, literature, and geography in Latin America. His recent work includes a reedition of José María Vergara y Vergara's sketches and an edited volume celebrating the centennial of José Eustasio Rivera's acclaimed novel, La vorágine. Martínez-Pinzón's teaching portfolio includes courses on Spanish American literature, cultural histories, and ecocriticism, reflecting his extensive expertise in 19th and 20th-century Latin American literary studies.
