Francesca is a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies. Her current research project investigates the phenomenon of ‘pseudo-law’ in the UK, focusing on critical groups of citizens who employ unorthodox interpretations of legal texts to challenge state authority. Her research interests lie at the intersection of law, technology, and citizenship, with a particular focus on the relationship between law and resistance to sovereign power. Her work broadly engages media social theory, digital activism, and healthcare law policy, exploring the interconnections among expertise, accountability, and trust in information societies. Francesca holds a PhD in Law (Socio-Legal Theory) from the London School of Economics, where she received the ESRC - Rena Field Scholarship. Her doctoral research explored mediated vaccine-critical activism, examining how online vaccine critics invoke and reinterpret legal concepts and institutions to support their claims. In addition to her research, Francesca enjoys teaching and has previously taught courses on the Introduction to the Legal System, Legal Research and Writing, and Medical Law and Ethics seminars at LSE.
