Professor Dr. Francisco Gonzalez Lima

Biography

Francisco Gonzalez-Lima is a prominent researcher in the field of Behavioral Neuroscience and Psychobiology. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Tulane University in 1976 and 1977, respectively. He completed his Ph.D. in Anatomy and Neurobiology at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in 1980. Dr. Gonzalez-Lima's doctoral research introduced him to the field of electrophysiology and contributed to significant advancements in neurobiology. He has held various academic positions, including Humboldt Fellowship and Assistant Professor at Ponce School of Medicine, where he was part of the founding faculty. His collaborations in Germany led him to develop pioneering neuroimaging methods in humans using fluorodeoxyglucose, contributing to the understanding of learning and memory mechanisms in the brain. His teaching career includes courses on Behavioral Neuroscience and Functional Neuroanatomy at the University of Texas at Austin, where he has been recognized as the George Sanchez Centennial Professor. His ongoing research interests focus on neurocognitive enhancement and mental health, illustrating his commitment to advancing the understanding of brain function and its implications for education and health.
