Dr. Freda Herseth

Biography

Mezzo-soprano Freda Herseth performs a diverse repertoire, including 40 operatic roles, chamber music, and oratorio, with performances throughout Europe and the United States. She has received critical acclaim for her performances, including the premiere of a work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Richard Wernick with Riccardo Muti and La Scala Opera Orchestra. Notably, she has been praised as a 'mezzo-soprano discovery' for her performance in the title role of La Cenerentola, directed by Brigitte Fassbaender. Herseth has also been an alto soloist for Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Be-er Sheva Orchestra and has performed Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with various orchestras. Her appearances include the Opéra Bastille in Paris, Stuttgart Opera, and the Moscow Conservatory in Russia. She is renowned for her interpretations in contemporary music, having premiered works by William Bolcom and others. A dedicated teacher, many of her students have won the Metropolitan Opera National Auditions. She has taught at prestigious institutions and music festivals globally, and her efforts have contributed to the training of a new generation of performers and active arts administrators.
