Biography

Gabrielle Moser is an art historian, writer, and independent curator with a focus on photography history, curatorial studies, aesthetic theory, and art criticism. She authored "Projecting Citizenship: Photography and Belonging in the British Empire" published by Penn State University Press in 2019, and co-edited a special double issue of the "Journal Visual Culture" on reparation in 2022. Currently, she is working on a new book for McGill-Queen’s University Press titled "Citizen Subjects: Photography, Sovereignty, and Post-War Canada". Moser's work critically engages with photographic collections in Canada, particularly regarding Indigenous racialized subjects and their representation. She has published over 90 reviews and interviews in international magazines, contributing regularly to venues such as Artforum and C magazine. Moser has organized exhibitions at the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery and has held fellowships at prestigious institutions including the Paul Mellon Centre and the British Library. Additionally, she is a founding member of the EMILIA-AMALIA feminist working group, promoting intergenerational knowledge transmission through public events. Her teaching methods at Concordia University encompass experiential learning and critical inquiry into the relationships between representation, social difference, and power.
