Dr. Gale Macleod

Biography

Gale Macleod works as a Professor at the Moray House School of Education and Sport at the University of Edinburgh. With a background in Philosophy and Theology from Oxford University, Gale has pursued a career dedicated to addressing social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties among young people. Following the completion of her PhD in 2005, which mapped the distinct provisions available for young people in Scotland, Gale began her academic career in lecturer positions, focusing on primary education for students with special needs. She has taken on various academic leadership roles and was appointed the chair of the UK Council for Graduate Education Working Group on postgraduate student experience in 2019. Gale's current research interests include the social consequences of diagnosed behavioral disorders, parental engagement in family learning, and the experiences of young people identified as disruptive in schools. She is specifically interested in supervising PhD candidates from non-traditional academic backgrounds and collaborates across departments to contribute interdisciplinary research on education and social justice.
