Biography

Dr. George Carpten, IV, is an Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Pennsylvania State University. He has previously served as an Assistant Professor at Ohio University and Northern Kentucky University. Hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, he received his Bachelor's in Music from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, followed by a Master's in Music from Pennsylvania State University and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. A dedicated educator, Dr. Carpten conducts masterclasses and solo recitals both domestically and internationally, with recent appearances at institutions such as Louisiana State University and Kansas State University. He is also a guest faculty artist at the annual University of Kentucky Summer Trumpet Institute and the Corfu International Trumpet Festival in Greece. Alongside teaching, he performs actively with professional ensembles in orchestral, jazz, and commercial contexts, including the Cincinnati Symphony Pops Orchestra and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. Dr. Carpten is a member of the International Trumpet Guild, where he serves as the editor for the ITG Profile Column and chairs the ITG Jazz Competition. Additionally, he has adjudicated for various trumpet competitions and endorses Bach Trumpets.
