Biography

George Kling is a Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Michigan. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Colorado in 1982 and earned a Ph.D. in Zoology from Duke University in 1988. Since joining the University of Michigan faculty in 1991, his research has primarily focused on aquatic ecology and biogeochemistry. His work involves the study of carbon and nutrient cycling in lakes and streams, as well as understanding food-web interactions within a landscape context. Kling has conducted research in arctic and tropical lake ecosystems around the world. He is also known for his extensive scientific outreach, including over 300 articles, public interviews, and broadcasts discussing climate change-related issues. He has received numerous accolades for his work, such as being elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and receiving the National Academy of Sciences Young Investigator Award. Kling's contributions to understanding environmental challenges have been significant, particularly in relation to the Great Lakes region and tropical ecosystems.
