Biography

Georges Adamczyk is a professor at the School of Architecture of the Université de Montréal, where he served as director from June 1999 to June 2007. He is a researcher at the Laboratory for the Study of Potential Architecture (LEAP). Prior to his current role, he taught at the design department of the Université du Québec à Montréal since 1977. Adamczyk is a trained designer and holds a bachelor's degree in specialized design (3D) from UQAM and a master's in planning (history and theory of architecture) from the Université de Montréal. He has held multiple directorial positions at UQAM, overseeing programs related to design and history of art. Adamczyk is a co-founder of the journal SILO, dedicated to modernist architecture, and served on the editorial board of ARQ Architecture Québec for nearly a decade. His research interests focus on the history and theory of architecture, urban architecture, architectural pedagogy, and the critique of architecture. He has organized significant conferences, contributed to major publications, and worked collaboratively on numerous research projects exploring architectural quality in Canada. Adamczyk participates in urban design competitions and serves on juries, advising on public interest projects.
