Biography

Glyn joined University of Southampton in 2007, after completing a Bachelor of Arts in French Linguistics at the University of York, followed by a Master’s and PhD in Linguistics, also from York. His PhD thesis, entitled 'Derivation of Anaphoric Relations', was published by John Benjamins in 2009. Glyn specializes in generative syntactic theory and its applications to language acquisition and language attrition. He is a co-investigator on the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)-funded research project 'Vulnerable Native Grammars: Effects of Limited Input on Native Language Attrition' running from 2020 to 2023. Glyn teaches a variety of undergraduate modules in linguistics at Southampton, including 'Elements of Linguistics', 'Exploring French Linguistics', 'Syntax', and 'Advanced Syntax'. He has also taught modules in psycholinguistics and language acquisition for postgraduate students. His research interests include the syntax-semantics interface, bilingual speakers, and the connectives between formal syntactic theory and language acquisition, investigating how syntactic phenomena inform our understanding of grammatical structures and their susceptibility to attrition in native language grammars that have been influenced by exposure to different language varieties during childhood.
