Gözde Demirer is an Assistant Professor in Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology. She was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey, and received her B.S. in Chemical Biological Engineering from Koc University in 2015. Gözde completed her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, under the supervision of Professor Markita Landry in 2020. During her doctoral studies, she developed novel nanotechnologies for plant genetic engineering. Following her Ph.D., she undertook postdoctoral research in Professor Siobhan Brady's laboratory at the University of California, Davis. Her research focused on nutrient use efficiency in tomatoes and involved the development of high-throughput functional genomics tools to study transcriptional regulation in crops. The Demirer Lab at Caltech aims to engineer plants to improve food security, sustainability, and environmental remediation using innovative nanotechnology and synthetic biology approaches.
