Biography

Gözde Demirer was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey. She received her B.S. in Chemical Biological Engineering from Koc University in 2015. Gözde completed her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at UC Berkeley under the supervision of Professor Markita Landry in 2020. During her Ph.D. studies, she developed innovative nanotechnologies for plant genetic engineering. Following her doctoral training, Gözde undertook postdoctoral work in Professor Siobhan Brady's laboratory at UC Davis, where she investigated nutrient use efficiency in tomatoes and developed high-throughput functional genomics tools to study transcriptional regulation in crops. As an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering, Gözde aims to establish her own lab focused on bioengineering plants for improved food security, sustainability, and environmental remediation through novel nanotechnology and synthetic biology approaches.
