Gözde Demirer was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey. She received her B.S. in Chemical Biological Engineering from Koc University in 2015 and completed her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley in 2020 under Professor Markita Landry. During her Ph.D. studies, Gözde developed novel nanotechnologies for plant genetic engineering. Following her doctoral studies, she joined Professor Siobhan Brady's laboratory at UC Davis as a postdoctoral researcher, where her work focused on nutrient use efficiency in tomatoes and the development of high-throughput functional genomics tools to study transcriptional regulation in crops. At Caltech, Gözde's lab will work on bioengineering plants in the rhizosphere, addressing food security, sustainability, and environmental remediation through innovative synthetic biology and nanotechnology approaches.
Most Caltech graduate programs are PhD-only. GRE General and Subject tests vary by department; many have made them optional or no longer accept them.
