Dr. Grace Hampton

Biography

Grace Hampton is a Professor Emerita who has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in art, education, integrative arts at various institutions including Illinois State University, Northern Illinois University, California State University Sacramento, and Pennsylvania State University. She has held significant roles such as the Assistant Director of the Expansion Arts Program at the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C., and the Director of the School of Visual Arts at Penn State. With a notable career spanning several decades, she served as Vice Provost and has been involved in various leadership capacities including Head of African American Studies. Hampton has published articles in reputed journals and has participated in numerous exhibitions, showcasing her artwork across the United States and internationally. She received senior Fulbright awards for research collaboration with institutions in Ghana and Nigeria. Hampton is dedicated to mentoring students and developing community-based arts programs, demonstrating her commitment to intergenerational leadership and cultural engagement. She was featured in a “Community Conversations” series for Black History Month and holds a Gen2Gen Innovation Fellowship.
