Greg Cavazos is a highly respected mariachi director with decades of experience in education and performance in Texas. He has held key positions as mariachi director at Eagle Pass High School, Cavazos Middle School, and Lubbock High School, where he cultivated vibrant mariachi programs and inspired countless students to pursue their musical passions. In secondary education, Cavazos directed the Mariachi Javelina at Texas A&M University-Kingsville from 1998 to 2003. He has actively contributed to the academic community by offering masterclasses at Texas Tech University and serving as Activities Director and lead trumpet instructor at the Texas Tech University Mariachi Camp from 2015 to 2019. He is a member of the Texas Music Adjudicators Association, where he evaluates mariachi ensembles statewide, and has served as a clinician for All-Region Mariachi ensembles in TMEA Regions 20, 15, and 11. As a performer, Cavazos has shared the stage with renowned artists such as George Strait, Beatriz Montes, and Jimmy Gonzales, showcasing his versatility with over 40 mariachi ensembles. His dedication to the craft earned him the Hermanos Familia 'Adelante Award' in 2022 and he was honored as an inductee of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Hispanic Honor Society, in 2015. With extensive experience and contributions, Greg Cavazos is a passionate advocate for mariachi music, dedicated to nurturing young talent and preserving this rich cultural tradition.
