Biography

Grit Matthias Phelps joined the Department of German Studies at Cornell University in 2008 after completing a Master’s Degree in German as a Foreign Language at Friedrich-Schiller University Jena, Germany. With a focus on effective methods for integrating emerging technologies into language teaching, Phelps promotes cultural communication and fosters critical thinking and language competencies among lifelong learners. Phelps has experience in working collaboratively with students through synchronous Computer Mediated Communication, specifically with students from Bielefeld, Germany. As a certified tester for Goethe-Institut exams, Phelps is dedicated to improving language education and engagement with modern digital platforms. Phelps also enjoys creating and engaging with podcasts and is passionate about questioning digital processes.
