Biography

Guobin Yang is the Grace Lee Boggs Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania and the Director of the Center for Digital Culture and Society. He also serves as the Deputy Director of the Center for the Study of Contemporary China. His academic work focuses on social movements, digital culture, global communication, and contemporary China. Yang is the author of several influential books, including 'Power Internet China: Citizen Activism Online' (2009) and 'Red Guard Generation: Political Activism in China' (2016), as well as the recent 'Wuhan Lockdown' (2022). He has edited and co-edited seven books and is a prominent scholar in digital activism, civic storytelling, and the emotional dimensions of digital politics. He has been elected as a Fellow of the International Communication Association and serves on the editorial boards of multiple academic journals. Yang teaches undergraduate courses on social movements and media, culture, and society, as well as graduate courses on cultural sociology and theories of revolutions and social movements.
