Recognized as one of Canada's outstanding violinists, Gwen Hoebig continues to excite and inspire audiences and students. After retiring from her position as Concertmaster of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, where she served for 37 years, Gwen is continuing her career while highlighting her love for performing and teaching. As a faculty instructor at the University of Manitoba's Desautels Faculty of Music, she has performed major violin concerti with orchestras across Canada, the United States, and Europe. Gwen has celebrated the interpretation of new music and has given Canadian premieres of violin concertos by notable composers such as S.C. Eckhardt-Gramatté, T. Patrick Carrabré, and many others. As a chamber musician, she is a member of the Hoebig/Moroz trio, performing alongside her husband, pianist David Moroz, and her brother, cellist Desmond Hoebig for over 40 years. Gwen is also a founding member of the Clearwater Ensemble and has been actively involved with the Winnipeg Chamber Music Society as their Ensemble-in-Residence since 2019. Besides performing, Gwen teaches at the University of Manitoba, Canadian Mennonite University, and maintains a private studio in Winnipeg, where her students excel in their performances across North America. She is a founding Co-Artistic Director of the elite Morningside Music Bridge program, coaching young violinists worldwide in preparation for their international performing careers.
