Biography

Gwendolyn Dease is a Professor and the Percussion Chair at the Michigan State University College of Music. She is passionate about educating the next generation of young musicians and regularly gives master classes at universities abroad. Dease has served on the faculty of the Brevard Music Center and the Filarmonica Joven de Colombia, as well as the Interlochen Arts Camp. Her career as a solo, chamber, and orchestral musician is active, having performed recitals in the United States, Asia, and South America. She is deeply involved in new music, commissioning over 30 new works for solo and chamber percussion. Dease is currently the principal percussionist for the Brevard Music Center Orchestra and has performed with prestigious orchestras, including the Detroit Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony, and Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. She is a recipient of several awards, including the Withrow Teaching Award and the Teacher Scholar Award from Michigan State University, as well as the Keiko Abe Prize in the World Marimba Competition. Dease has a notable discography that includes four solo CDs and various collaborative projects.
