Biography

Haipeng Luo is an Associate Professor and the IBM Early Career Chair in the Thomas Lord Department of Computer Science at the University of Southern California. He obtained his PhD from Princeton University in 2016 and subsequently spent a year as a postdoctoral researcher at Microsoft Research. His research interests focus on developing practical machine learning algorithms with strong theoretical guarantees. He specializes in online learning, bandit algorithms, reinforcement learning, and game theory. His recent work is concentrated on creating efficient, adaptive, and robust algorithms for online learning problems, particularly those that involve learning with partial information, multi-armed bandits, and contextual bandits. Over the years, he has received several awards including the NSF CAREER award, the NSF CRII award, the Google Faculty Research Award, and the Google Research Scholar Award. He has also been recognized with paper awards at prestigious conferences like ICML, NeurIPS, and COLT.
