Biography

Haixia Zhang is an Assistant Professor at the College of Agriculture and Bioresources, University of Saskatchewan. Her research focuses on foodomics, utilizing modern analytical techniques such as ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Zhang studies food macro- and micro-nutrients, phytonutrients, their identities, diversities, and changes during food processing. Her ultimate research goals involve exploring nutrient-balanced food sources for human health while promoting a sustainable food system by finding value in food industry byproducts. She has conducted post-doctoral research in Biochemistry at Vanderbilt University and Biology at Western University. Zhang has earned her PhD and MSc degrees in Analytical Chemistry from Western University and the University of Science and Technology of China, respectively, as well as a BSc in Chemistry from Liaocheng University in China.
