Biography

Handel Kashope Wright is a Canada Research Chair in Comparative Cultural Studies and the David Lam Chair in Multicultural Education. He currently serves as a Full Professor and Director of the Centre for Culture, Identity and Education at the University of British Columbia. Wright is a co-editor of the journal International Education and a book series on African Diasporic Cultural Studies with the University of Toronto Press. His academic work includes extensive publications in continental African cultural studies, critical multiculturalism, anti-racist education, and qualitative research. Wright has previously held a position as a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He has contributed to various cultural studies journals and has been active in editorial boards for journals such as Cultural Studies and the European Journal of Cultural Studies. Wright has organized and presented multiple keynote addresses at international conferences focusing on African cultural studies and critical pedagogies. He also engages in community work related to Black History Month in Vancouver and advises local cultural groups.
