Hanna Torsh is a Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University and a member of the Language on the Move research team. Her research focuses on language migration, multilingual families, language learning and teaching, and intercultural communication. Hanna completed her PhD in Linguistics, which explored the language learning trajectories of linguistically intermarried couples, and her thesis examined how gender and migration status affect participants’ constructions of language in relationships. Her thesis received the 2019 Michael Clyne Award from the Australian Linguistic Society for its contributions to immigrant bilingualism and language contact. In 2020, she published her book, Linguistic Intermarriage in Australia: Pride and Shame, with Palgrave Macmillan. Currently, Hanna is working on projects that explore language speakers in reality television shows and collaborating with colleagues from the Law department.
