Hanneke den Ouden is a Professor leading the Learning & Decision-making lab at the Donders Centre for Cognition, Radboud University. Her research focuses on human learning and decision-making, specifically investigating the neural computational mechanisms that drive both rational and irrational decisions. In her lab, she dissects the role of neuromodulators like dopamine and serotonin using psychopharmacological interventions, as well as stimulating (deep brain stimulation, transcranial ultrasound) and measuring (functional magnetic resonance imaging, electroencephalography, magnetoencephalography) brain activity to identify the brain circuits involved in these processes. Hanneke also studies how decision-making is altered in psychiatric disorders such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, autism, and depression, with the ultimate aim of improving diagnosis and treatment. She has received several prestigious awards, including the Wellcome Trust PhD scholarship, AXA postdoctoral Fellowship, and the Henry Dale Fellowship. She also received Veni and Vidi grants from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research and the Radboud Science Award.
