Dr. Hansun Waring

Biography

Hansun Zhang Waring is a Professor in the Applied Linguistics program at Teachers College, Columbia University. With significant expertise in conversation analysis, she focuses on the intricacies of interaction, particularly in educational contexts. Her scholarly interests extend to pedagogical interaction, public communication, and human-AI interaction, where she investigates the micro-seconds of everyday conduct that shape learning. Waring has published extensively in the field, contributing numerous articles and co-editing several books with a focus on conversation analysis and its applications in language education. She leads projects such as the LANSI Language Social Interaction Working Group and has been actively engaged in developing frameworks for language teacher education.
