Biography

Harry Brumer is a professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of British Columbia, specializing in carbohydrates, enzymology, biomaterials, and biomass utilization. His research group focuses on structure-function studies and applications of carbohydrate-active enzymes. He earned his B.Sc. from Michigan State University in 1993, followed by an M.Sc. from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1995, and a Ph.D. from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology in 1998. Brumer conducted post-doctoral research at the University of British Columbia from 1998 to 1999. His academic career includes positions as an Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden from 1999 to 2011, becoming a full professor there in January 2011. He joined the University of British Columbia in September 2011, where he continues to contribute to the scientific community through his research and teaching.
