Biography

Hartej Gill was born in Punjab, India. His educational journey began at the Government Primary School in Moranwali, Hoshiar Pur District. He has worked as an Elementary School Teacher in English and French Immersion Programs in the North Vancouver School District. Furthermore, he has held positions as an English Additional Language Teacher, French Additional Language Teacher, Learning Assistance Teacher, and Teacher-Librarian. In his role with the North Vancouver School District, he served as Vice-Principal at Sherwood Park Elementary School. Gill has joined the Faculty of Educational Administration within the Department of Educational Studies. His research interests focus on Social Justice Leadership, aiming to use research to bridge the gap between theory and practice, as well as social activism. His core work seeks to provoke critical dialogues around identity, power, and systemic oppression, including issues related to colonialism and modernity. His professorship position is designated as an EADM scholar-practitioner, and he aspires to co-create transformative, reciprocal relationships between universities, public schools, and the larger community.
