Biography

Heather Bray has over 20 years of experience as a Science Communication practitioner, scholar, teacher, and researcher. She currently coordinates the Master of Science Communication and the undergraduate major and minor in Science Communication at the University of Western Australia. Additionally, she previously taught science communication subjects at the University of Adelaide from 2012 to 2018. Her research investigates community understandings and attitudes toward the role of science and technology in food production, focusing on genetically modified crops and farm animal welfare. Through her work, she aims to enhance communication and build trust among stakeholders within the agri-food system. Bray has a solid background in agricultural science, previously working as an animal scientist in Australia and the Netherlands. Before returning to academia, she contributed to science centers and agricultural research organizations, where she developed community engagement programs around complex and often controversial technologies. Heather is an active member of the Australian Science Communicators.
