Dr. Heather Woodley

Biography

Heather Woodley is a Clinical Associate Professor at New York University’s Steinhardt School, specializing in TESOL, Bilingual Education, and World Language Education. She focuses on teaching and learning strategies that promote anti-racist and multilingual education, empowering communities and families. Her contributions include published articles and curriculum development for multilingual classrooms. As Director of the Childhood Education Department, she is dedicated to addressing critical education issues and enhancing the skillsets of future teachers. Woodley has a wealth of experience in teacher support, classroom resources, and leadership training in public schools, and previously taught middle and high school students in the Bronx and Washington, DC. Her accolades include the 2020 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Faculty Award at NYU and multiple teaching excellence awards. She holds a PhD in Urban Education from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, and her Master’s degree in TESOL from the City College of New York. An active member of several educational organizations, she advocates for transformative education and community empowerment in diverse settings. Woodley is also involved in various initiatives dedicated to supporting bilingual education and has created online spaces that facilitate critical teacher education.
