Biography

Helen L. Chen is a research scientist in the Designing Education Lab within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University. She holds a PhD in Communication with a minor in Psychology from Stanford University and an undergraduate degree in Communication from the University of California, Los Angeles. Helen serves as a board member for the Association for Authentic, Experiential Evidence-Based Learning (AAEEBL) and is a co-author of the guide titled 'Documenting Learning ePortfolios: A Guide for College Instructors.' Additionally, she is the co-executive editor of the International Journal of ePortfolio. Helen collaborates with the Association of American Colleges and Universities to consult institutions on general education redesign, authentic assessment methods, design thinking, and personal branding ePortfolios. Her current research interests include engineering entrepreneurship education, pedagogical approaches to portfolios and reflective practices in higher education, and the redesign of learning assessments and academic credentials traditionally recorded in transcripts.
