Biography

Hy Dao holds a postgraduate degree from the International Institute for Aerospace Surveys and Earth Sciences (ITC, Netherlands) and a doctorate in human geography from the University of Geneva. He is a full professor in the Department of Geography and Environment at the University of Geneva. In addition, he directs the Metadata and Socio-Economics Unit at GRID-Geneva (United Nations Environment Programme). His research focuses on various aspects of geographical information, graphic semiology, risk assessment, planetary boundaries, population mapping, sustainable territorial development, and territorial cohesion indicators. He is involved in several academic courses related to cartography, geographic information, and remote sensing. Furthermore, he plays a significant role in numerous projects like Semantic Environmental Trajectories and the CATI-GE geospatial analysis of inequalities in Geneva.
