Biography

Ian Boxall graduated with a BA (Hons) in Theology from Oriel College, Oxford in 1990 and completed an MPhil in Theology with a focus on New Testament in 1992. He served as a Tutor for New Testament Studies at Chichester Theological College from 1992 to 1994 and taught New Testament at St Stephen’s House, Oxford from 1994 to 2013. He completed his DPhil in 2011 with a dissertation on ‘Patmos Reception History Apocalypse,’ supervised by Professor Christopher Rowland. Subsequently, he held the position of Associate Professor of New Testament at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, from 2013 to 2022 before returning to St Stephen’s House in January 2023. His research interests include Biblical Studies, particularly the Gospel of Matthew, the Book of Revelation, and the reception history of the New Testament, alongside visual exegesis. Boxall is actively involved in editing scholarly works, currently serving on the Editorial Board for Wiley Blackwell Bible Commentaries and contributing to various book projects.
