Biography

Ingrid M. Nembhard is the Fishman Family President's Distinguished Professor in Health Care Management at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on how the characteristics of health care organizations, leaders, and staff affect the ability to engage in organizational learning, implement new practices, and improve health care outcomes. Professor Nembhard's work provides valuable insights into critical issues within health care, particularly regarding organizational learning in the work environment of health care professionals. Her research has led to a greater understanding of the effects of intra-organizational and inter-organizational relationships on leadership behavior, team learning strategies, project management, quality improvement efforts, and overall patient care experiences. She integrates knowledge from organizational behavior, organizational theory, and health services research and employs both qualitative and quantitative research methods to address questions related to health care management from the provider and patient perspectives. Professor Nembhard earned her PhD in Health Policy Management with a concentration in Organizational Behavior from Harvard University, where she was part of a joint program with Harvard Business School and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Additionally, she received her MS in Health Policy Management from the Harvard University School of Public Health and her BA in Ethics, Politics, Economics, and Psychology from Yale University.
