Isabella (Bella) Maita received her PhD in Neuroscience from Rutgers University in 2023, where she conducted translational research using mouse models to study stress, mood disorders, and Alzheimer's Disease. Her dissertation focused on the role of corticotropin-releasing factor-expressing neurons in the extended amygdala, specifically the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis, and how these neurons influence stress-motivated behavior. Currently, she is an Assistant Teaching Professor at UC San Diego, where her research interests are centered on instructional methods to ameliorate student stress in higher education. She advocates for transparency and clarity in purpose and expectations regarding assignments in her courses. Her current project employs both qualitative (representative focus groups) and quantitative (surveys) methods to assess how perceptions of transparency and predictability affect individual stress levels, particularly for diverse students in STEM fields.
